Under Tribhuvan University there are various faculties and institutes. Institute of engineering is one of the Institute of Tribhuvan University. Under the Institute of Engineering, there are four constituent campuses and ten private colleges. Pulchowk Campus is the central campus of the Institute of Engineering. It was established in 1972 (2029 B.S) as one of the constituent campuses of the Institute of Engineering and is situated at the heart of the Lalitpur city at Pulchowk. Initially, it was started for the production of trade level manpower to fulfill the nation’s need in the field of Engineering. Pulchowk campus offered diploma level (intermediate level with three years duration) courses in various engineering disciplines since 1973 (2030 BS) but diploma level courses are phased out now. Pulchowk campus has been offering bachelor’s degree courses in various engineering disciplines since 1984 (2041 BS).
Till 1984 Pulchowk Campus was involved in producing low to middle-level engineering manpower in the field of Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Architecture. Realizing the national and global demand gradually the country felt a need of engineering manpower in higher level. As a result, four years of bachelor level course in Civil Engineering was introduced in 1984. Gradually, bachelors in Electrical Engineering and Bachelors in Electronics Engineering were started from 1994 (2051 BS), bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and Architecture were started from 1995 (2052 BS) and bachelors in Computer Engineering was started from 1998 (2055 BS). All these Bachelors in Engineering (BE) programs were introduced for the first time in Nepal.
Currently, Pulchowk Campus offers bachelors courses, master’s courses, and Ph. D. programs in different areas of engineering. This campus is well equipped with necessary laboratories with great strength of faculties and staffs, separate buildings for academic and administrative purposes has become the center of excellence of engineering education in Nepal.
Pulchowk Campus has been awarded the “Best Constituent Campus Award” by Nepal Government, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in 2019.
Institute of Engineering Thapathali Campus is a Paradise for Technology. Situated in between the Heart of Capital, it has been providing Undergraduate and Graduate Level of Technical Education. looking back, Thapathali Campus is the first Institute in Nepal Providing Engineering Degrees and technology training since 1930 AD.
Today Thapathali Campus Stands as a pioneer institute for Bachelor Level of Engineering Degrees. Bachelor Level Degrees run for 4 years, under completion of which you will be honored as an Engineer. In Bachelor level, Thapathali Campus is offering BE Civil Engineering (96 Seats), BE Electronics, Communication & Information Engineering (48 Seats), BE Mechanical Engineering (48 Seats) Automobile Engineering, BE Industrial Engineering (48 Seats), BE Computer Engineering and Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch)program. Pashchimanchal Campus, formerly known also as Western Region Campus is one of the four constituent campuses of Tribhuvan University, Institute of Engineering in Nepal. The Pashchimanchal campus became operational from 1987 with assistance from the World Bank and UNDP/ILO.
Purwanchal Campus, formerly known as Eastern Region (ERC) Campus is one of constituent campuses of Tribhuwan University (TU) and one of the associate engineering campuses of Institute of Engineering (IOE) which is a comprehensive, non-profit making, autonomous institution and pioneering institution of higher education level in Nepal funded by government of Nepal. It is situated at Gangalal Marg, Tinkune, Dharan-8, Sunsari district in the eastern region of Nepal. It occupies an area of 443 ropani (34-13-11.75 Bigahas) in convenient unit, which is equivalent to about 0.23 square kilometers roughly 22.54 hectares. It is adjacent to Charkose Jhadi (densely forest) in north and located at entrance gate by bus of Dharan Sub-metropolitan city.
